In Japan, there is a tradition of having a picnic under the cherry blossom trees in spring. This event is called HANAMI, where people celebrate the arrival of spring by enjoying delicious meals and admiring the beautiful cherry blossoms.
Amsterdam also has some HANAMI spots where you can feel the arrival of spring.
Amsterdamse Bos
Amsterdamse Bos is a vast nature park and one of the largest parks in Europe. It’s a forest with many trees, so much so that you wouldn’t believe it’s in an urban area, and various wild birds greet you as you explore.
Within Amsterdamse Bos, you’ll find Kersenbloesempark (Cherry Blossom Park), home to 400 cherry trees.
Every year, from the end of March to the beginning of April, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, making it the perfect time to enjoy HANAMI.
I believe Kersenbloesempark is the best HANAMI spot in Amsterdam.
Westerpark
If you’re looking to enjoy cherry blossom viewing near Amsterdam Central Station, Westerpark is a convenient and easy-to-reach option. While there aren’t as many cherry trees as in Kersenbloesempark, you can still fully experience HANAMI here.
This location is also very accessible, and with plenty of cafes and restaurants in the area, you don’t have to worry about being hungry while enjoying the flowers.
Museumplein
Did you know that the Rijksmuseum has two cherry blossom trees? After enjoying the beautiful art inside the museum, you can also admire these lovely cherry blossoms.
These trees are located at the RIJKS restaurant next to the Rijksmuseum. On warm days, you might even be able to enjoy HANAMI while dining on the terrace.
in Amsterdam City
The Amsterdam Tulip Festival, held every year, is an event where 85 tulip spots are set up throughout Amsterdam, allowing everyone to enjoy the vibrant tulip displays.
With the theme of “Tulips for all citizens of Amsterdam,” tulips are planted in various places across the city.
Period: April

Flower parade
The Bloemencorso Bollenstreek (Flower Parade) is a major event held in Haarlem, just outside of Amsterdam.
The parade covers a total route of 40 km, and it’s a big spring event that takes place over several days.
