What is FlixBus?
Have you heard of FlixBus?
FlixBus is a German-based long-distance bus service offering affordable travel across the Netherlands and throughout Europe.
I recently took a trip with FlixBus and had a surprisingly comfortable and budget-friendly experience!
Traveling by FlixBus Within the Netherlands
FlixBus makes it easy and affordable to travel between Dutch cities. For example, a one-way trip from Amsterdam to Rotterdam starts at just €3—a huge contrast to the €18 fare on Dutch Railways (NS).
There are 14 FlixBus stops across the Netherlands, including popular destinations like The Hague, Utrecht, Maastricht, and even border towns such as Nijmegen and Venlo.
While some routes have limited schedules—early morning or late night—there are frequent departures between major cities. In many cases, travel time is comparable to the train.
Want an even easier experience? Download the FlixBus app to book, manage, and access your tickets directly from your phone, anytime and anywhere.
Even the longest domestic route—Amsterdam to Maastricht—only costs around €12 one-way and takes about 3 hours, making it a budget-savvy option if the times work for you.
FlixBus Stops in the Netherlands (as of January 2023)
Amsterdam, The Hague, Delft, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Vianen, Arnhem, Nijmegen, Kaatsheuvel (Efteling), Tilburg, Eindhoven, Venlo, Roermond, Maastricht
Travel Across Europe with FlixBus
With FlixBus, crossing borders is just as easy—and affordable.
For instance, I traveled from Amsterdam to Düsseldorf for just €15 one way. The journey took about 3 hours—only an hour longer than the train, but less than half the price.
While road travel may come with occasional traffic delays, one major advantage is that you can often find low fares even the day before your trip.
FlixBus connects cities across Europe. While extreme routes like Amsterdam to Bucharest (over 40 hours and ~€100) may not be realistic for most, many other options offer great value.
A trip from Amsterdam to Paris costs about €20 and takes around 8 hours. By comparison, the Thalys high-speed train takes just over 3 hours—but can cost more than €100.
